Biography

Andrew Hanan represents businesses and professionals in complex tort and commercial matters.  His experience includes litigation and trial of cases in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey state and federal courts.

Representative Matters include the following:

  • Represented several pre-eminent Philadelphia law firms in cases alleging legal malpractice in the course of complex business transactions.
  • Represented a Philadelphia law firm in action against its legal malpractice insurer, establishing coverage by summary judgment.
  • Represented a national insurance company in the Oregon federal and state courts in action alleging fraudulent sales practices. Obtained summary judgment and affirmance on appeal on behalf of the client.
  • Represented an insurance company against which an $11 million confessed judgment was entered in Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Successfully moved to strike the judgment, and had striking of judgment affirmed on appeal.
  • Successfully defended a physician in a week-long medical malpractice trial. Plaintiff alleged the physician’s failure to monitor a mentally-disabled woman’s epilepsy medications led to her death by anemia. Jury returned unanimous verdict in the doctor’s favor.
  • Represented one of the world’s largest technology companies in a claim alleging fraud in the sale of computer networking equipment. Successfully tried case in federal court resulting in directed verdict for the client.
  • Represented multi-national companies in mass tort actions, including defense of computer equipment manufacturer in Pennsylvania and New Jersey Repetitive Stress Injury litigation.
  • Represented Pennsylvania steel-maker against claims arising from New Jersey gas pipeline explosion.
  • Represented clients in individual personal injury cases, such as defense of suit arising from chemical tank explosion, and products liability claims alleging injury from chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
  • Prosecuted multi-million dollar claim on behalf of gas and chemical manufacturer for metallurgical defects contained in hydrogen-processing pressure vessels.
  • Represented national franchising company in franchise disputes.
  • Represented Pennsylvania public utility in number of service-related claims.
